UVHUnified Vehicle Hire

A van for electrical work — right size, right payload, available now.

Electricians working residential and commercial jobs need a reliable panel van that fits in a suburban street, carries cable drums and components, and is available when a job books at short notice. Large Luton vans are impractical for most electrical work — payload and interior configuration matter more.

  • Business-focused route into vehicle hire, not consumer rental
  • Connected to flexi, long-term, and contract hire options
  • Direct supplier introduction after enquiry review

Payload and configuration for electrical work

Cable drums are heavy. A medium panel van with a solid payload rating is often the right answer for electricians carrying cable, conduit, containment, and tools. Interior racking keeps components accessible and reduces damage in transit. Smaller vans suit residential work where parking is tight; contractors running multiple jobs may need more load capacity.

Rolling hire for sole traders and growing contractors

Many electricians operate as sole traders with workload that changes week to week. Rolling 28-day hire terms suit that pattern — no fixed commitment beyond the current period. Larger electrical contractors who need multiple vehicles at once may find that some suppliers can accommodate team requirements, subject to availability.

Electricians hire questions

A number of suppliers we work with do accept sole trader applications, though criteria vary. You will typically need a valid driving licence, proof of address, and trade evidence such as Part P registration or an NICEIC/NAPIT card. When you submit your enquiry, include your trading status and we will match you to suppliers whose terms are compatible with sole trader hire.
Cable drums vary significantly in weight. A standard 100m drum of 6mm twin and earth can weigh 15–20kg; larger power cable drums are considerably heavier. Most medium panel vans offer 800–1,200kg payload, which is sufficient for most electricians' loads. If you are regularly carrying multiple heavy drums or large containment, it is worth specifying the load when you enquire so we can match to a suitable vehicle.
Hire vehicle insurance typically covers use across the UK unless otherwise stated. That said, terms differ between suppliers and it is worth confirming geographic coverage when you take the vehicle. If you operate across regions or regularly work away from your base, mention that in your enquiry and we will factor it into the introduction.
